Ghost Blues Documentary
June 9th, 2010
To coincide with the 15th anniversary of Rory’s untimely passing RTE will be broadcasting an hour long edit of the documentary ‘Ghost Blues’, at 10.15pm on Thursday June 10th.*
The documentary is a study of the late lamented musician, and the full length feature is set for release on DVD in September along with a second disc of rare archive Rory Gallagher performances.
Not only will the documentary delight fans; it will appeal to a broader audience through the timeless qualities of the ‘gentleman’, his music and the unique approach of this much-missed authentic guitar virtuoso. His contribution to rock music has had a significant impact on both musicians and music fans around the world, despite his untimely death arising from complications following liver transplant surgery, at the age of 47.
The documentary by director Ian Thuillier, features rare tracks from his formative years with his first band, Taste, through Rory’s solo career as he single-handedly spearheaded the Irish rock movement, and in the process, blazed a trail for other Irish rock bands including Thin Lizzy, U2, etc. With guest contributions from those who knew him best; Donal Gallagher (his brother and manager) and his band members, Bill Wyman (Rolling Stones) to those who he inspired to become music greats themselves; The Edge, Johnny Marr, Slash etc, this documentary will add to Rory’s enduring legend.
*It will also be available to view on the RTE iplayer for residents of Ireland from late Thursday night for 3 weeks.
